Luosto Tunturi Hotel
Situated in the heart of the Aurora Zone, the tiny ski resort of Luosto nestles quietly amongst some Lapland’s most beautiful fell and forest countryside.
There are only two hotels and a selection of log cabins here so Luosto still retains a huge amount of Lappish charm and you get the perfect balance between comfort and wild landscape.
For ski fans, there is a maze of cross country ski trails and seven downhill ski slopes (which you’ll have pretty much to yourself) as well as a small selection of souvenir shops and a mini-market. If you fancy eating out then the village has a couple of good restaurants and for a snack at lunchtime why not try the grill or the ski centre?
One of the real charms of Luosto is that everything you need is easily accessible so you do not need to venture far to enjoy all it has to offer.
The Luosto Tunturi Hotel and Amethyst Spa
The Luosto Tunturi Hotel and Amethyst Spa combines comfortable bedrooms, with a swimming pool, spa facilities and three restaurants to create a relaxing haven from the sub-zero temperatures outside.
The Aurora Credentials
Aurora Alarm
Around 30km from Luosto you will find the Sodankyla Geophysical Observatory, the hub of Aurora science in the area. The Observatory was located here to take advantage of an impressive Northern Lights record and scientists study the Arctic firmament from here throughout the year.
The Tunturi hotel works in conjunction with the Observatory to provide guests with an Aurora Alert system. The Observatory alerts the hotel when conditions mean that there could be an Aurora. If the weather situation is then deemed to be conducive at Luosto our guests will be alerted.
The system is designed to help you in your search for the Lights but as conditions can change very quickly, you are recommended to rely equally as much on your own observations of the night sky.
Aurora Lounge
The Aurora Lounge is an area on the first floor of the hotel which has been set aside for the Aurora watcher who prefers a centrally heated viewpoint. The lounge is designed to be somewhere for guests to relax, read about the Aurora and watch the skies. You will always get a better view from being outside though so keep your coat handy at all times.
Bedrooms
All of our 'Northern Lights at Leisure' guests stay in the new wing of the hotel. All the rooms have an en-suite toilet/shower room (with hair dryer and clothes drying cabinet), mini bar, digital television and telephone. Our 'Northern Lights at Leisure' guests also have tea and coffee making facilities provided in their rooms (a rarity in Scandinavia). Every bedroom has been tastefully furnished and decorated and has free wireless internet. A PC is also available in reception. There is also a sofa in each room that can be converted to sleep one extra adult.
Tunturi and Amethyst suites
The suites are a real treat. If you enjoy the idea of simply relaxing at the hotel during the day then we can highly recommend these suites as they provide a living area and kitchenette so you can really make yourselves at home.
The twelve Tunturi suites all have one bedroom for two people and the three Amethyst suites have two bedrooms for two people each. The settee can also be converted to sleep another two adults.
All suites have a lounge area, well equipped kitchen (ideal for making a snack or warm drink during your stay), a shower room with private sauna, hair dryer, drying cupboard, toilet, telephone, TV and balcony.
Restaurants
Half board is included in your stay. The Tunturi’s expansive breakfast buffet offers everything from cereals to bacon and eggs, fruit, yoghurt, porridge and delicious waffles.
Your evening meals will include a range of salad starters as well as a buffet choice of main course and a dessert.
For lunch the hotel’s Bistro restaurant offers a set lunch menu or you can choose from the other restaurants in the village. There’s also a few specialities on the Bistro menu and we’d definitely point you in the direction of the Reindeer Burger.
Swimming Pool
Our guests love the swimming pool and spend hours relaxing and making the most of the facilities. There are massage and waterfall points as well as a jacuzzi in the amethyst cave.
The sauna wing offers both Turkish and Finnish saunas as well as a small gym.
The Amethyst Spa
The Amethyst Spa offers a fabulous range of treatments and proves to be very popular with our guests.
Sadly we have been unable to try each of the treatments (we felt that may be a bit much to ask) so we cannot give firsthand advice. However at the time of booking we will provide you with a full list of treatments and prices as well as the contact details for the spa so that you can arrange the treatments directly. The specialists will be able to give you any advice on treatments and details of what is available.
Availability can be limited so we recommend that you book any treatments well in advance of travel to avoid any disappointment.
