Day 1 - Arrivals and introduction
Your driver will be awaiting your arrival at Kittila or Rovaniemi Airport from where it’s a 90 minute drive through stunning winter countryside to your hotel in Luosto. On arrival at the hotel, you’ll be provided with your Aurora alert and details regarding your stay.

After dinner you can head to bed or if the excitement is too much you can relax in the Aurora Lounge and keep an eye of the night sky from there.

Day 2 - Introduction to the Northern Lights and the Aurora Trail
This holiday is all about relaxation and choice. The itinerary is leisurely and designed to provide you with free time to tailor your stay but we’ve included evening excursions to help maximise your chances of seeing the Aurora.

For the next few days you can simply take advantage of the hotel’s facilities which include the excellent Amethyst Spa and swimming pool or revel in the silence of a Lappish winter.

As many of our guests want to try dog sledding, reindeer safaris, ice fishing etc during their holiday we provide you with the details of the activities available at the time of booking. To guarantee availability, activities should be confirmed with us prior to paying the balance of your holiday, nine weeks before departure. This should help ensure that we are able to arrange your ideal programme of activities. Activities can become fully booked during peak periods and we would hate for you to be disappointed.

To introduce you to the Aurora Borealis a Northern Lights expert will explain the phenomenon during a picture and video presentation at the hotel. You will cover the myths and ancient beliefs right through to the modern science involved in studying the Lights.

After your presentation a guide will go over the evening’s forecasts and introduce you to the nearby Aurora Trail close to the hotel. You will walk around the small lake and be shown the best places to watch any Aurora displays. Warm drinks will be served and your guide will answer any questions you may have.

Day 3 - Free Day
Today is completely free to enjoy your surroundings and take advantage of all that is on offer in Luosto. Whether you have booked spa treatments, activities or simply fancy reading a book at the hotel, the day is yours.

In the evening the Aurora Lounge is a warm haven from the cold or you can make your way back to the Aurora Trail with eyes firmly on the Lappish sky. Remember to keep your alert with you throughout in case a display takes you by surprise– meal times can often be interrupted and the chefs quite understand.

Day 4 - Kuusiranta and Northern Lights dinner
Today you can once again choose to relax or take advantage of all that Luosto can offer.

Later, during the afternoon you will be collected for your final foray into the Arctic night.

You’ll be transferred initially to a local reindeer farm where you will stop briefly to admire and feed the animals. Your journey then continues to Kuusiranta, a selection of wooden buildings situated on a lake shore around 25km from Luosto.

At Kuusiranta you will be given the chance to try some ice fishing and have the opportunity to craft your own souvenir from wood. The sauna will be heated and the ice will have been cleared from a plunge pool in the lake. Those who want to take a refreshing pre-dinner dip in the lake can do so. You must be in excellent physical condition and have no heart problems to participate; mild insanity can also be an advantage! Nevertheless, it is an incredibly invigorating experience and as mad as it seems to submerge oneself into icy cold water, the afterglow is well worth the initial shock....honest!!

Whilst you are in the sauna or ice fishing, your dinner will be prepared on an open fire. To allow you to bid farewell to Lapland in style we have included a three course menu featuring local specialities such as reindeer, salmon and cloudberries. Dinner is served in a traditional wooden kota.

The beauty of Kuusiranta is that its location provides uninterrupted views of the night sky so you will have an excellent opportunity to witness a spectacular farewell Aurora should conditions be suitable.
