Opening this December, Pyhä is the latest addition to the Northern Lights Village resort group. Renowned for their spectacular offerings, Markku Inkilä and his wife, Susanna, have created another incredible opportunity for guests to closely experience the wonders of the Northern Lights without sacrificing comfort. Expect glass-roofed accommodation, expertly guided activities and mouth-watering Lappish delicacies.
The Northern Lights Village is situated around 130 km above the Arctic Circle - an excellent position for Northern Lights hunting. It's also near the Pyhätunturi National Park, Finland's oldest National Park, and only a 10-minute drive away from Pyhä's ski resort.

Throughout the day, you'll have the opportunity to partake in a range of unforgettable Arctic activities, such as dog sledding, snowmobiling, a reindeer sleigh ride, cross-country skiing, and much more.
While most of the accommodation types here at the Northern Lights Village in Pyha offer the unique chance to hunt for Auroras from the comfort of your bed, you may wish to kick off the evening with a dedicated Northern Lights activity. You can choose from several fantastic options, including snowmobiling and snowshoeing, which will lead you deeper into the wilderness, accompanied by knowledgeable local guides.
Itinerary
A selection of winter activities can be added to your trip at an additional cost. Once you have chosen when you want to travel and for how long (we recommend a minimum stay of three nights) you can select as many or as few activities as you wish from the extensive range on the “Activities” tab and tailor your trip as required. All activities are individually priced and our Travel Experts can assist you with your selection and will then provide a personalised itinerary quotation for you

BRAND NEW in 2023 one of our very favourite partners, Northern Lights Village, launched their newest destination in Pyhä. We have been privileged enough to watch this awesome team create two of our most popular destinations from the initial concept stage right through to the professional operation to which we send hundreds of happy guests each month during the Autumn and Winter seasons.
The small village of Pyhä is around 130km North of the Arctic Circle and around 90 minutes from Rovaniemi airport. The Northern Lights Village is located about 5km from the nearby downhill ski resort. The village is set in a beautiful, picturesque snowy forest and just a very short walk away you can find the frozen Lake Pyhäjärvi.
There is a restaurant and reception building on site where all your meals will be served. At a safari house you will be issued cold-weather clothing, and this is the meeting point for your activities. Please note that hot water is limited in certain accommodation types.

Personalise This Tour
Using the mobility of a bus to your advantage, your guide will drive you further north to a location determined by the local weather and Aurora forecasts.
Along the way, you will stop and take photos at some scenic locations before travelling to the viewpoint.
Once you reach a prime Northern Lights viewpoint, you will enjoy warm drinks and snacks as you wait in anticipation of a show.
Duration: approximately 3 hours in total
Travel into the Arctic night as you follow your guide up the snowy fell and to a brilliant location for Northern Lights searching.
Once at the top of the fell, you will warm by the fire and enjoy snacks and hot drinks. Keep an eye on the sky at all times, as the Auroras could start to dance at any moment.
Please note, you will travel two per snowmobile with the option to swap drivers however, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a full driving licence to drive a snowmobile. Children aged 13 and under will travel in a sleigh pulled by the guides snowmobile. Children who are 13-14 years old and 140cm tall can choose to travel pillion on their parents snowmobile but will be charged as an adult.
Duration: 3 hours
Snuggle up in a seat in the cosy Aurora heated sleigh as you glide through the captivating landscape. Your expert guide will lead you through the snowy landscape and the edge of the boundless wilderness to a welcoming fire. Enjoy a hot drink and some snacks around the fire sharing stories and listening to Nordic tales. Prepare your camera to capture the Northern Lights if they should appear on the horizon.
Duration: approximately 3 hours in total
Delight in a walk with your knowledgeable guide through the peaceful forest at night. Hear the crunch of freshly fallen snow beneath your snowshoes. Warm up by a campfire in a hut with hot drinks and snacks. Your guide will share tales of the Northern Lights while eagerly awaiting the mesmerising display. Hopefully, you will have the chance to admire their vibrant hues and their twisting and turning patterns.

During this photography workshop, your expert instructor will teach you everything you need to know so you can take the magic of the Aurora home with you.

Snowmobiling is a must-do Arctic activity. It is a vital form of transport in these remote locations but offers you an adventurous way to explore the stunning Lappish landscapes.
Along the way, you will stop at scenic locations to take photographs and admire the views and you can warm up with a hot drink and snacks.
Please note, you will travel two per snowmobile with the option to swap drivers however, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a full driving licence to drive a snowmobile. Children aged 13 and under will travel in a sleigh pulled by the guides snowmobile. For the ultimate snowmobiling experience, this longer safari takes you further into the wilderness to really appreciate the scale of the snowy environment.
On this journey, you will travel through wintery forests, powdery snowdrifts and admire the breathtaking scenery all around you. Your guide will stop in various places so that you can capture these amazing sights on camera and you will also enjoy hot drinks and a light lunch.
Please note, you will travel two per snowmobile with the option to swap drivers however, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a full driving licence to drive a snowmobile. Children aged 13 and under will travel in a sleigh pulled by the guides snowmobile. Husky sledding is one of the most popular Arctic activities and when you try your hand as a musher, you’ll soon see why.
When you first meet your team of sled dogs, chances are they will be excitable and barking, eager to get going. Rest assured, as soon as they take to the trail, they will quieten down so you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
You will usually travel two per sled (one driving and one as a passenger in the sled)
Duration: Approximately 1 hour in total (5km or around 30-minute sled ride) including short transfers and briefing.
For those who want a little more than a taster of husky sledding, this 10km track is a longer expedition so you can really settle into your role as a musher.

If 25 minutes isn’t enough, be sure to book this extended activity which gives you and your family the chance to feed the reindeer and practice throwing a lasso. After a short transfer to the Kopara Reindeer Farm, you’ll hear all about the Sámi people and the intriguing history of reindeer herding.
The glittering forest then beckons you to enjoy a 1-hour reindeer sleigh ride (two to four people per sled) through its winding trails and unbeatable scenery before you indulge in a hearty and delicious lunch.
Duration: approximately 2.5 hours in total including lunch and transfers; sleigh ride lasts approx. 1 hour
Minimum age: 4 years and over
Cross-country skiing is a traditional and hugely popular activity in Lapland. You don’t need any previous skiing experience as your expert guide will teach you the basics. Then you will all head along the forest trail to see more of the winter landscape as you glide across the snow.
Duration: approximately 2 hours in total
Enjoy the peace and tranquillity the quiet woodland has to offer. Get up close to nature during this snowshoe hike through the shimmering forest to a nearby fell. Your guide will build a fire and prepare a hot drink whilst you can enjoy the spectacular landscape. Perhaps you will be fortunate to glimpse Siberian jay, a willow grouse, or a herd of reindeer roaming by. Next, your expert guide will teach you about the local wildlife and help you to drill a hole through the thick ice at the nearby lake. You’ll bait the hook and wait to see who can successfully catch the fish of the day.

Built in the same style as the Aurora Cabins with a large sky window, the Igloo Sauna offers a perfect combination of viewing the night sky while warming up in the sauna and relaxing in a hot tub. Price is per group of 1-4 people

The ideal option for the more adventurous, looking to take a dip in ice cold water after getting warm and comfy in a traditional Finnish Sauna. You will have use of the hot tub also. Price is in total for a group of 1-10 people
