Your holiday to Abisko Mountain Lodge, located in a stunning national park, will offer a unique blend of natural beauty and adventure. Escape to the heart of Swedish Lapland and enjoy the lodge as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. This package allows you to enjoy activities from Snowmobiling under the night sky, to a thrilling dog sledding experience during the day, along with slower paced activities such as a peaceful morning hike and an aurora photography workshop. One of Abisko's biggest selling points is its impressive success rates of viewing the Northern Lights, known as one of the best locations in the whole world.
The lodge itself provides cosy accommodations and hearty meals, with a focus on local cuisine. Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kiruna Airport, you will be privately transferred to your accommodation at Abisko mountain lodge, taking just over 1 hour. After settling into your accommodation head to the on-site Brasserie Fjallkoket and enjoy a seasonal, locally sourced dinner in a cosy, warm environment on your first night.
Please note that the order of activities within your itinerary is subject to change and the agenda below should be used as a guide only. The exact order of your agenda will be confirmed upon arrival at the hotel.

After enjoying your buffet style breakfast, with views out over the Lapporten mountains (and great coffee!), you will get your first taste of the great outdoors – Arctic style! Savour the awe-inspiring winter landscape, as you let your guide and their willing team of huskies do the work.
This is a great opportunity for you to take pictures and videos. There is a break, so you can relax and getting to know your canine companions. At the end of the tour, when you are back at the husky yard, you can help your guide unharness the huskies and walk them back to their homes.
Afterwards, head back to the lodge and warm up in the onsite sauna (you have unlimited access throughout your trip) before enjoying a delicious dinner back in the brasserie this evening.

After dinner, this evening plays host to your first Aurora activity. Join one of Lights Over Lapland’s professional aurora guides for an unforgettable adventure to see and photograph the northern lights in the pristine landscapes of Abisko National Park. Renowned for its clear skies, Abisko is one of the world’s premier locations for witnessing the Aurora Borealis.
This Ultimate Aurora Photo Adventure provides you with a DSLR camera and lens pre-set for capturing the northern lights, along with a tutorial on essential photography skills. Depending on the weather and aurora forecast, you will be offered three thrilling ways to chase the lights: on foot to a nearby teepee, in a modern 4×4 van, or on a cosy sleigh pulled by a snowmobile to our wilderness camps.

To make the most of your last full day in Abisko, we have arranged a day of engaging activities. What better way to start, than to head out on a short hike (2km) and enjoy the scenery of the National Park. There are a myriad of traditional trails in the park, and your guide will choose the best option for you based on the conditions. You might meander along tranquil river canyons, through ancient birch forests or at the side of the vast Lake Torneträsk. Your guide will lead the way and share their extensive knowledge of local flora and fauna, plus ancient stories of the indigenous people that call this stunning landscape home. The duration is approximately 2 hours.
After Dinner this evening, finish your itinerary with a Snowmobile tour – not only one last chance to see the Northern Lights but a thrilling experience in itself. Following a full briefing, your guide will lead you out into the Arctic wilderness with your headlight picking out the trail ahead. You will stop in a sheltered spot, where you can focus on the sky above and enjoy a hot drink and a snack around a warming fire. You will be out for between 2-2.5 hours on this activity.
After your last breakfast at Abisko Mountain Lodge, it’s time to depart. You will be privately transferred back to Kiruna Airport, where we wish you a pleasant journey home.

Residing 100km from Kiruna, the small and friendly Abisko Mountain Lodge can be found in the wilderness of Swedish Lapland, offering mountain views and a warm welcome.
The lodge is around 4km from Abisko National Park, famed for its hiking trails in the summer and ski trails in the winter. The beautiful natural scenery of Northern Sweden is just a short walk away.

The lodge consists of one main building and a handful of smaller outer buildings. In the main building, you will find 20 rooms, the reception lounge, restaurant and the bar area

The chefs here take great pride in the food, making great use of local and seasonal produce and traditional Swedish recipes. Breakfast is served buffet style, whilst lunch and dinner are set menus (lunch can also be provided to take with you on your daytime excursions)

Personalise This Tour
Ice climbing is one of the most popular activities in Abisko and it is renowned as one of Sweden's best places to try it. There is a wide selection of icefalls (please don't mind this name - it is just that you will be climbing up a frozen water fall) for beginners as well as experienced climbers.
Ice climbing equipment and a certified guide are included in the tour. The tour starts with fitting you out with ice climbing equipment (alpine boots, crampons, harness, and helmet). After a short drive to the icefall, your guide will take you through the first basic steps of climbing vertical ice and instructions on how to handle ice climbing crampons and ice axes. Then you just need to prepare for one of the best arctic experiences of your life!
It is recommended to bring a backpack so you can bring an extra sweater to hand or take some clothes off if you get too warm when climbing/too cold when standing by the icefall.
This tour departs twice a day at 9.30 and 14.00 (In the afternoon spotlights and head torches are used to illuminate the Ice wall).
The tour includes equipment for ice climbing and transfers from/to the Lodge.
Duration: approximately 3 hours
You will travel through the magnificent mountain scenery of Abisko with high mountains, frozen lakes and swamps, as well as great views of Torneträsk, Sweden's second largest lake. With some luck you might get a glimpse of the wildlife in the National Park. Along the route you will take a break and enjoy a traditional Swedish fika - a hot drink and cookies. You will also have the opportunity to swap drivers at this point if you are sharing a snowmobile.
You will travel in small groups (maximum 8 pax) to ensure an exclusive experience and minimise your impact on the environment, as does your use of an electric snowmobile. There will be time to take photos along the way.
Before departure your guide will provide you with instructions and a full safety briefing.
