How fit do I need to be for my holiday?

The answer to how fit you need to be depends on which trip you are considering as, on the vast majority of our holidays, it is not necessary to have had any special training or high fitness levels. Each trip is given a ‘pace’ rating (relaxed, balanced, active or set your own) so you can be clear of which holiday would be the most suitable for you and our travel experts will be happy to answer any further questions you may have about your fitness level.

There are a few things that are important to bear in mind when it comes to fitness on our Aurora Zone experiences. The first is that that you will be spending a fair amount of time in low temperatures which can cause you to be more tired than usual. The second thing to consider is that most of our holidays have been designed with beginners in mind and the people that go on our trips have usually never travelled to such locations before or had experience of activities such as husky safaris or snowmobiling – the guides will not throw you in at the deep end!

If you are unsure how fit you need to be for  a particular holiday, please get in touch and our team will help accordingly.

If you or any member of your party is pregnant or has any medical condition or disability which may affect your holiday or has any special requirements, please tell us at the time of enquiry or booking. You must also promptly advise us if you become pregnant or any medical condition or disability which may affect your holiday develops after your booking has been confirmed. You may need to provide a doctor’s note and proof of insurance in some cases as the health and safety of our clients is absolutely paramount.

Below you will find details about how we rate each of our holidays in terms of their pace. This is designed to help our clients chose the most suitable holidays for them. If you have any questions though, just contact one of our travel experts.

Any activities we feature are designed for beginners unless otherwise stated. Full instruction and tuition are provided for all activities and you do not need to have any previous experience.

Relaxed

Our relaxed pace itineraries are ideal for those who are looking for a leisurely pace during their holiday. Our relaxed programmes do not compromise on the key experiences a destination offers but you will not be required to participate in any strenuous activity to enjoy them. The holidays will include more significant periods of downtime for guests to relax, enjoy a good book or a sauna experience.

You will still get to have truly memorable experiences though, such as gazing at the Northern Lights from the comfort of a snowmobile-pulled sleigh or lazing in Iceland’s Blue Lagoon.

Many of our relaxed pace holidays are designed to offer a lot of flexibility so we can look to really tailor things to your needs.

Balanced

Our balanced holidays offer the best of both worlds; with a mixture of activities and free time to give you flexibility, alongside some incredible experiences. These holidays typically will include half day activities and, whilst they require a slight sense of adventure, the physical requirements are not too high. They are ideal for those who want to try something different but also have the time to simply relax, unwind and explore in their free time.

Our holidays will include activity highlights such as dog sledding and snowmobiling, but you will typically not be out for any longer than half a day. This means that you can enjoy the company of a good book and a log fire in the morning and a team of huskies in the afternoon! There is also typically a free day included so that you can set your own itinerary.

Active

Our active holidays are fairly self-descriptive. They include activities on most days which are typically of a longer duration than those on the balanced holidays. You will be out enjoying your destination in an active way for fairly long periods of time and if you are travelling in winter then you do need to be aware that long days in sub-zero temperatures can be tiring (but exhilarating too!)

For most of the holidays an average fitness level and a sense of real adventure are all you need.

These holidays can really get you out and about into the some of the wildest corners of the world and provide experiences which are not to be missed.

Set your own

On many of our holidays you can book a simple base package and then, with the help of our experts, you can tailor the itinerary to completely suit your needs. We give you the chance to book all your accommodation, flights and transfers around your chosen duration (minimum of three nights). You can then choose from a selection of activities and experiences to incorporate into your stay from a weekly schedule.

The beauty of these holidays is that typically each member of a party can tailor their own pace and so, if you are travelling in a group, people can tailor their own time. We can also very easily cater for a group where there are varying levels of fitness.
