As the largest city in Northern Norway and sitting 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, Tromsø is the perfect combination of natural wonders and vibrant city life.
Nicknamed ‘the gateway to the Arctic’ and renowned for its Northern Lights potential, Tromsø gives you easy access to some truly wonderful winter experiences both day and night, which we make the most of during this itinerary. You will spend some time outside of the city centre and in the stunning Lyngen Peninsula where you will explore the breathtaking scenery by snowmobile before retiring to your dedicated Aurora accommodation. Away from the city lights, you can keep an eye on the dark sky from the comfort of your glass-roofed Crystal Lavvo.
Another evening will see you travel to the nearby husky farm to meet the hardworking and friendly sled dogs. You will spend some time with the expert mushers and their pack as you make use of the site’s Aurora camp to search the skies for a potential display.
Back in the city centre, you will also have ample free time for some independent exploration. There are plenty of cultural offerings at several museums and an array of cafes and restaurants to try some local and fresh Arctic cuisine. Tromsø is also known for its lively nighttime scene with bars and live music. With such beautiful surroundings, Tromso prides itself on preserving the local nature, culture and environment - as well as reducing the negative impact of tourism.
For a perfect blend of bustling city, pristine nature and dedicated Northern Lights searches, this three-night winter trip to Tromsø has it all.

DAY 2
Snowmobile Tour and Overnight in Crystal Lavvos
Following breakfast in the hotel, you will be collected from a nearby location and transferred to the stunning Lyngen Peninsula and to your Crystal Lavvo. As you leave the city behind you will start to see the carved mountains and dramatic fjords take shape - and it is these wonderfully natural settings where you will spend the night.
Before this, however, you will explore more of the region via snowmobile. This machine is perfect for manoeuvering on the snowy trails and will take you to viewpoints out to the Arctic sea and the Lyngen Alps - a pristine winter environment that you have to see to believe. You will receive a full safety briefing and instructions on how to drive the snowmobile before taking to the trails, riding two per machine. Please note, you must be at least 18 years old to drive a snowmobile and hold a full licence. You will be out snowmobiling for approximately 2 hours before enjoying lunch at the Crystal Lavvo lodge.
You will have the rest of the afternoon free to explore your surroundings, before enjoying a home-cooked dinner followed by an informative Aurora workshop where you will learn how to capture the lights on camera, should they appear. Following this, you have the evening free to enjoy your incredible accommodation for the night. The glass roof of the Crystal Lavvo means you will be able to see the night sky at all times, whilst keeping warm by the fire or even tucked up in bed. Hopefully, the Northern Lights will appear to make your stay even more spectacular.

DAY 3
Back to Tromsø, Husky Visit and Aurora Camp
Wake up to the surrounding pristine nature and enjoy breakfast overlooking the Lyngen Peninsula before returning to the bustling city of Tromsø.
You have the day free to explore the Arctic city as you please. Our Aurora Experts will be happy to give recommendations - one highlight we all love is the 4-minute aerial tram ride to Storsteinen for indescribable views. Your luggage can be left securely at your hotel until your room is available for check-in this afternoon.
Later this evening, you will be collected from a nearby location and taken to the Tromsø Wilderness Centre to meet the playful huskies. You will meet with professional guides who will introduce you to the excitable dogs and give you a tour of the facilities before enjoying a traditional dinner by the fire. The centre’s main draw for this evening, however, is its fantastic Aurora camp - located away from the city lights for an ideal Northern Lights vantage point. Here, you can gaze up at the night sky where hopefully, the green dancing lights will start to appear. You will be about for approximately 4 hours, including transfers.
If you would like to upgrade your activity tonight, you can instead choose to take part in a Northern Lights minibus hunt, a Northern Lights catamaran cruise, dog sledding, or a reindeer camp experience - please see our 'Personalise' section for full details.
