As this is one of our active trips your days include some wonderful experiences. You will head out into the wilds on an exciting snowmobile safari across frozen lakes and through forested-fells in addition to travelling in an altogether more peaceful manner on a 17km husky safari. On another day you will be able to gain an invaluable insight into the culture of this remote region as you spend the morning at a working reindeer farm.

For your evening Aurora activities you will enjoy searches on snowshoes with your guide leading the way to what will hopefully be ideal vantage points for a potential display of the Northern Lights. You will also enjoy a hunt via minibus, with the mobility of the vehicle hopefully allowing you to outrun any cloud cover that may be obscuring a display.

For your last night you will check out of your accommodation at Harriniva and journey to a remote wilderness setting where you will find an Aurora Cabin. Here you will spend your final night in Lapland, deep in the wilds, enjoying a more simple way of life and, with luck, the Northern Lights dancing overhead.

We love this trip as the combination of interesting daytime activities, relaxing afternoons and varied Northern Lights hunts. The night in the wild is truly the icing on the cake.

Holiday group size

Minimum 8 persons, maximum 24 (approximately)

Group sizes and minimum numbers

Most of our holidays require a minimum number of participants to operate. Minimum numbers are detailed on each holiday page and are always approximate. Group sizes for tailor made holidays will vary for each of the activities. For private departures you may also be joined by other guests during the activities unless you have discussed specific private activities with us.

If your selected date has not yet reached minimum numbers you will be informed at the time of booking. In the unlikely event that your chosen date has not reached the required minimum numbers nine weeks before your scheduled departure date we will contact you and discuss the various options available to you. We will always do all we can to operate a holiday and in some cases we may be able to operate the holiday by combining your itinerary with that of other guests for some activities (this may mean that the maximum group size is increased but this will be discussed in full with you).

If we are unable to operate the holiday then you will be offered the chance to transfer to an alternative holiday or date (subject to availability). If the alternative is more expensive you will be asked to pay the difference, if it is cheaper then you will be reimbursed. You will also be offered the option to cancel and receive a full refund of all monies paid.

See our booking conditions for further information.

Order of activities

The order of activities is always subject to change and you will be provided with your final itinerary upon arrival at your destination

Medical History and advice

If you or any member of your party is pregnant or has any medical condition or disability which may affect your holiday or has any special requirements as a result of any medical condition or disability (including any which affect the booking process), please tell us before you confirm your booking so that we can assist you in considering the suitability of the arrangements and/or making the booking. In any event, you must give us full details in writing at the time of booking and whenever any change in the condition or disability occurs. You must also promptly advise us if you become pregnant or any medical condition or disability which may affect your holiday develops after your booking has been confirmed.

See our booking conditions for further information.

Experience and fitness

We offer a vast choice of holidays which range from 'relaxed' to 'active' so there really is something for everyone and our holidays can be filtered by how active they are. Regardless of the chosen holiday, all activities will include tuition from a beginner's lever and no prior experience is assumed.
If you are unsure about the physical demands of a particular holiday please contact us and our expert team will be happy to help.
See our booking conditions for further information.

Guides and safety

It is absolutely essential when partaking in any activity that you listen very closely to, and abide by, the instructions provided.

If there is anything that you are unsure of during a safety briefing or that you would like to clarify with the guides please make this clear to them immediately before starting the activity.

Our guides' word on activities is always final and your safety is their principal concern at all times, please respect their decisions. By following their instructions, your safety and enjoyment during each activity will be greatly enhanced.

See our booking conditions for further information.

Booking activities locally

In almost all of our destinations you can book and pay for additional activities locally. Please note that we cannot be held responsible for any injury or loss that occurs through any activities that are booked in your destination (see our terms and conditions for further details).

Please always ensure that your safety is your primary concern when arranging any such activity.

Aurora alerts: During your stay you will be supplied with an Aurora alert. This is typically a mobile phone system to which the staff will send a text should the Northern Lights be sighted. The alerts generally operate until 1am but it is best to confirm with your guide as times may vary.

The alerts are designed as an aid to Aurora hunting and, although every effort will be made to issue an alert should the conditions seem conducive to a display, things can change very quickly so you should not rely solely on them and should also keep an eye on the sky yourself.

Minimum age

The minimum age for participation in our itinerary is 15 years old, however, for some activities and shared transfers, our guests may be joined by others and these may include those of a younger age. Any younger participants will be fully supervised by an adult and the guides will ensure that they are only able to participate if there will be no effect on the activity experience.

To drive a snowmobile you must have a full driving licence and be over 18 years old.

  • I really enjoyed the entire trip 28 March 2015 by Michelle Wald

I really enjoyed the entire trip; was very peaceful to be in such a remote town with nice people and unique experiences. The airport transfer was easy, Luka awaited us with a sign. And Quincy was very nice greeting us as we arrived at the lodge. The rest of the trip was easy, clear communication of where to be when, easy access to all the right clothing/gear, great guides and friendly staff, fun

husky ride, nice snowmobile safari (although those things are hard to turn!), accomodation was nice, especially compared to what I expected in a remote lodge like this. Food was fine, nothing super special, but also quite good for such a remote location. They even provided us some special veggie options upon request, so that was nice. The sauna was a nice warm break from the outside temperatures! I liked that we could reserve it privately for an hour, but I wonder if that would be possible during busier times. As when we were there the lodge was pretty empty. so in peak times, it might mean that some guests don't get a turn, which would be a shame. So overall a really nice winter holiday! Most enjoyable: seeing the Lights! We only got to see them our first night, as the next two were cloudy. but glad we caught them at all! the husky ride was also fun and special.I

We have had the best holiday we have ever had! This was a truely remarkable experience and we loved every single thing about it! I loved the snow mobiling as I got to go really fast across the frozen lakes! My husband loved the huskies as he is a big dog lover. 100% perfect.  I really can't sing the praises of the whole experience and all the people highly enough. Thank you, thank you,

thank you. We saw the Lights every night! I would say that there is a little more to the local area for walks to the village and the rapids in the other direction - I was nervous we would not have much to do on our free days but I think there was lots to keep us occupied so I think you can say this to other holiday makers. The staff and guides etc at Harriniva were truly excellent. We are missing everyone and everything!

We enjoyed all the activities, our guides were excellent, really helpful. We enjoyed the reindeer sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoe hiking, cross-country skiing and the husky sledding. • The whole holiday was enjoyable 06 March 2015 by Lesley Flowers

For myself the whole holiday was enjoyable. Obviously seeing the lights was an added bonus and seeing them three nights out of four was more of a bonus. The trip to the forest on the snowmobiles was for me, magical, especially when all the headlights went out and you could see the sky, the stars and 'hear' the silence. I honestly do not think that there was a time when I did not enjoy myself. The

An awe inspiring time! Beautiful scenery, exhilarating experiences and the Aurora to top it all!

  • Thank you Aurora Zone for a fantastic trip 01 April 2013 by David Tonge

The main reason for doing this trip was purely to see the Northern Lights. However, we had such a good time doing all the activities. Being bikers we loved the snowmobiling, although riding on the back was like being on a bucking bronco at times! The frozen lakes were lovely and smooth though, so we managed to go at a fair speed across them. We loved the huskies too - they were so cute and eager

to go. The reindeer sleigh was more sedate but still very enjoyable and it was interesting to learn about the lives of the herdsmen. We even got to try our luck with a spot of lassoing (a wooden reindeer, not a live one!) which was a laugh. The only activity we weren't bothered about was the snowshoes, which we thought was a bit pointless, but at least we tried it. The hotel was great, lovely and warm, and our room was very comfortable and snug. We weren't at all cold inside, even when it was minus 18 degrees outside! And we couldn't fault the food - loads of it, hearty stuff which you need in those temperatures. The cold saps your strength so you need to keep eating. We were all given a boiler suit, mitts and gloves, and big clodhopper boots which insulated us against the cold. Our rep, Emma, was lovely; very friendly and approachable, as were all the hotel staff and guides. Everyone went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible and nothing was too much trouble. However, like I said, the main reason for going was to see the Northern Lights and we weren't disappointed. We were treated to a spectacular display which the resident photographer, Antti, managed to video. He advised how to set up our cameras and we got some great pics. We also saw a fantastic curtain display, which was a surprise on the way back to the hotel at midnight so we didn't really have time to do anything except stand there and watch in amazement. It really was a case of once seen, never forgotten. We enjoyed our trip so much that we're thinking about going back again. Thank you Aurora Zone for a fantastic trip.
