Northern Lights Holidays to Lannavaara

The remote, idyllic haven of Lannavaara is a municipality of Kiruna, tucked away in northern Sweden.  This secret location is made up of a small village and a breath-taking landscape complete with frosty lakes, various winter wildlife and snow-covered pine tree forests. The clear, Arctic skies pose as an ideal spot for Northern Lights hunting, in order to hopefully catch a glimpse of the mesmerising Aurora.

Whilst Lannavaara is generally unknown, it is famous to many who are interested in gold and diamond panning. The area has such an abundance of gold and gemstone resources, that a ‘Gold Panning Championship’ takes place here every year, attracting various competitors from around the globe. This also means that the village offers many activities for visitors, such as lessons and exhibitions in a gemstone grindery and entrance to a mineral museum.

Despite the ethereal seclusion of Lannavaara, it is in no way an isolated area with little to do or see. The landscape alone is something to explore and admire, as the endless, snow-drenched fells continue for miles, and the distant mountains make for a truly breath-taking view. Many visit the area for its stunning, intricate trails, and the nearby Lainio River is popular for fishing, rafting and boating. One major advantage of the location is its proximity to Sweden’s world-famous ICEHOTEL®, which is only a two-hour transfer away from the village and can add a unique diversity to any trip.

The Aurora Zone was born out of our love of all things wintery. We were already regular visitors to the likes of Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland thanks to a fascination with winter activities such as dog sledding, snowmobiling and the Scandinavian way of life. Many of our visits coincided with sightings of the Northern Lights and The Aurora Zone was born from a desire to share Mother Nature’s greatest wonder with as many people as possible. We have all been held in the Aurora’s thrall and our mission is to do our very best to ensure that our clients can experience that magical moment on their Northern Lights holiday.
