About Torassieppi

Torassieppi refers to the tiny location in the heart of stunning Finnish Lapland, where you will find the picture perfect Torassieppi Reindeer Farm and Winter Village.

Owned by the Pietikainen family who also run the delightful Harriniva Hotels, the cosy cottage accommodation here sits on the banks of Lake Torasjärvi and the edge of the Pallas Ylläs National Park which are renowned spots for seeing the elusive Northern Lights.

Our Northern Lights adventures to Torassieppi combine traditional Finnish accommodation, bucket list activities, and of course the chance to witness the reclusive Aurora.

Heritage and beauty

The unique heritage of reindeer herding is one of the prime attractions here and reindeer are still herded here and in the surrounding area, meaning you can enjoy a close encounter with these magical creatures. There is a small museum with original artefacts on-site too which can be enjoyed and visitors can try their hand at traditional herding techniques such as lassoing.

Torassieppi also holds an enviable reputation for Northern Lights viewing. The sheer remoteness of this location ensures light pollution is kept to a bare minimum with only a handful of buildings in the surrounding region. Torassieppi also has a wonderful range of Northern Lights hunts by snowmobile or snowshoe as well as wonderful Arctic experiences by day including husky sledding and cross-country skiing.

Surrounding the hotel is the peaceful beauty of the fells and the bordering Pallas Ylläs National Park – a pristine snow-topped wilderness. Pallas Ylläs National Park is the third largest national park in Finland, covering some 1000 square kilometres. Its high fells are prime locations from which to seek out potential Auroras, as well as being ideal for the multitude of winter activities on offer. In the winter here, visitors can enjoy some of the cleanest air in Europe as well as marvel at the snow-topped Taiga Forests.

Unforgettable Arctic nights

Essentially, this destination on the banks of Lake Torasjärvi and the edge of the Pallas Ylläs National Park features an original herder’s homestead which has been converted into a handful of inviting cabins. This homestead dates back to 1847, making it one of the oldest surviving buildings in Finnish Lapland. As well as the original farm building, warmly-welcomed visitors can enjoy a stunning lakeside location, Aurora glamping and an annually constructed spectacular snow village.

The cosy cottages at Torassieppi provide guests with a true taste of Finnish Lapland with their wood burners and additional living space – they really create a retreat after a day in The Great Outdoors.

In 2016, the owners of Torassieppi created the innovative and unique Aurora Domes – the ultimate in Northern Lights glamping. Effectively, these Domes are large tent-like structures built on the shores of Lake Torasjärvi with a large north facing window – the perfect vantage point to watch the dark Arctic sky.

In addition, the ‘coolest’ accommodation that Torassieppi boasts is the Winter Village that is constructed here annually. Located on the edge of Pallas Ylläs National Park, the Winter Village is a marvel to see, with artistic sculptures and designs as well as snow igloos which can be slept in overnight for those seeking out a wonderful Arctic experience!
