Witness the Northern Lights from the comfort of your bed
There are many ways you can search for the Northern Lights, from night-time snowmobile safaris and husky sledding to reindeer sleigh rides and cross-country skiing.
However, one of our favourite trends is the innovation of Aurora accommodation, which allows you to gaze up to the inky night sky and watch the Northern Lights hypnotically dance, all from the comfort of your bed.
Aurora accommodation takes many forms including Aurora Bubbles or Glass Igloos. These wonderfully designed structures give you a distinctive location in which to sleep, ensuring you can enjoy warmth and comfort, all whilst giving that all-important sky view.
From experiencing one unforgettable night in this specialist accommodation to spending each night of your holiday searching the skies as you are tucked up in bed, there are a range of options to suit every trip!

A room with a view
When the dedicated Northern Lights activities have ended, what better way to continue your search than with specially designed accommodation?
At Wilderness Hotel Nellim, guests can experience the wonderful Aurora Bubbles. These small wooden pods feature a fantastic domed, Perspex roof and are furnished with a double bed, rugs and blankets.
Nellim’s sister hotel, Wilderness Hotel Muotka, also offers an exceptional night in an Aurora Kota which incorporates the cosy benefits of a cabin with a private sauna, allowing you to gaze at the night sky in real style.
At the Apukka Resort, you can choose to stay in a cosy Aurora Cabin or for extra luxury, you could opt for the wonderful Aurora 360 Cabins. Covering two levels, the design is based on a ‘Komsio’ which means a traditional Sámi cradle for an extremely comfortable way to search the skies for the Northern Lights.
During a visit to the Vasara Reindeer Ranch, you can choose to stay in the glass igloos situated in the heart of Sámiland, for an authentic insight into the local culture and the chance to spot the Northern Lights as well as Lapland's favourite animals!
Not just for one night…
Many of our specialised Aurora accommodations are used as an extra special night. However, there are a few idyllic destinations which provide this magical experience for the duration of your stay.
Head just 1km from Saariselka’s small ski resort or just 16km from Levi centre and you will find the Northern Lights Villages, two fantastic destination solely dedicated to glass-roofed Aurora Cabin accommodation. All cabins face north with the half glass roof pointing your gaze directly towards the sky. Additionally, there is a clever timer switch used to melt any snow on the roof within 10-15 mins, so there is no need for you to leave your cosy accommodation to sweep it away!
Wilderness Hotel Inari also provides a similar experience allowing guests to spend the duration of their stay in an Aurora Cabin based at a lakeside retreat.
Northern Lights Glamping in Finland and Norway
Glamourous camping, more commonly known as ‘glamping’ has hit the world of Northern Lights hunting by storm.
On the banks of Finland’s Lake Torasjärvi and on the edge of the Pallas Ylläs National Park lies Torassieppi Reindeer farm and its innovative Aurora Domes. These cosy, Scandi-style domes are large tent-like structures that allow for star-gazing and hopefully Northern Lights viewing, due to their large glass wall. Enjoying the views of the snowy outdoors whilst staying comfortable and warm inside is an experience like no other.
Head to the island of Kvaløya in Northern Norway and you can also experience glamping at its best. Wilderness Camp North Tour is set in a wild, snow-covered valley surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks that provide breathtaking views and wonderful chances of witnessing Mother Nature’s greatest wonder. These bright and spacious glamping tents are equipped with large, cosy beds with several windows, giving you fantastic views of the northern skies and the surrounding landscape. Similarly in the mountainous surroundings of the Lyngen Alps, you can stay in a Crystal Lavvo - a wooden construction with a glass roof which gives you the adventure of camping but with added comfort and a Northern Lights twist.
A touch of luxury
Bordering the magnificent backdrop of the Pyhä-Luosto National Park in Finnish Lapland is the small ski resort of Luosto, a well-known hub for Northern Lights viewing. With fantastic Aurora prospects, guests won’t want to take their eyes off the northern sky; thankfully they won’t have to!
Situated by Hotel Aurora, the Arctic View Rooms have all been lovingly designed to contain all the amenities you might need including a large double bed, armchair, shower room and toilet, whilst showcasing a simple Scandinavian design that provides both comfort and elegance.
However, the real attraction is that each room is self-contained. With large windows and a partial glass roof, Aurora hunters can keep an eye on the sky at all times, giving you the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights.
Just a short drive down the road and located on the pristine Pyhätunturi mountain, you will find the Pyha Glass Igloos. These well-equipped cabins ensure you have everything you need in one place, leaving you to spend a cosy night searching the skies.
