Michael is part of our product and operations department and enjoys the role of creating magical Northern Lights based trips for The Aurora Zone. Having been born in the North East of England, where winters are largely unpleasant and a time of hibernation, Michael had yet to experience the magic of an authentic winter in a snow-covered wonderland location.
Since joining The Aurora Zone however, his thirst for winter based holidays has grown and his first trip to Swedish Lapland has produced perhaps one of his most memorable travel experiences to date. A wonderful husky safari in Sörbyn as the sun set over the idyllic snowy landscapes was truly enchanting. Michael felt that controlling a team of eager and lovable dogs whilst navigating the surrounding wilderness was a unique and life lasting experience.
In addition to a husky safari, Michael also enjoyed a thrilling night time Snowmobile trip over the frozen sea on the Luleå archipelago from the charming location of Brändön Lodge. He also visited a local reindeer farm, spent time in a Sami wilderness camp, went snowshoeing through a beautiful forest and caught a brief glimpse of the Northern Lights as they danced over Sörbyn. Although the lights were faint Michael enjoyed the thrill of the chase, hunting them through deep snow during the darkened night. During his time in Sweden, Michael also visited the ICEHOTEL which was a surreal and enchanting experience.
Now that Michael has settled into the company, he looks forward to enjoying further winter based trips. He is particularly keen to experience the Polar Night in Spitzbergen, which is also known for its population of polar bears.
