The BBC Two programme ‘Reindeer Family & Me’ is based on wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan’s experience of living with the Sámi people in the Arctic Circle. During the show, he meets with the ancient Sámi people to learn about their unique culture and to understand their connection with the reindeer. After immersing himself in the Sámi community, he sets out alone to discover for himself what life is really like within the Arctic Circle, all whilst hunting for the mystical Northern Lights.
The ‘Reindeer Family & Me’ show is coincidentally based at a reindeer farm next to the remote destination of Menesjärvi in Finnish Lapland, which is home to one of our most popular Northern Lights holiday destinations. In Menesjärvi, you will not only get to meet our wonderful team at Korpikartano, you’ll also get to meet Petri and his family - whom this insightful programme is based around.
During our Menesjärvi Wilderness Aurora holiday, you’ll have the opportunity to step into the footsteps of Gordon as you immerse yourself in the Sámi culture during a morning with a reindeer herder and a visit to the famous Sámi Siida Museum.
But of course, one of the main reasons you’ll be heading way up to the Arctic Circle is to see the Northern Lights. Menesjärvi’s location within the Aurora Zone and its limited light pollution allow for the perfect setting for spotting the elusive Aurora. Here, you’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy some fantastic Northern Lights activities including an Aurora workshop, an Aurora snowshoe trek and even a thrilling Northern Lights snowmobile safari.
Tune in on Boxing Day at 8pm on BBC Two for this fantastic episode.
